Dear those who view my message,
It has been quite the year here in the United States. For my 3rd scholarly year at my institute, I have decided to focus on the times of the colonies of the New World. I intended to tell a story. A story of the people of 18th century New England, through visuals, in both motifs and metaphors. Over the past 4 months of my education, under guidance of my professor, I have learnt new techniques such as jackets, linings, and knits. I also further developed my hand sewing and fabric treatments in this collection.
During the times of the colonies, the tensions between the old country and the new had led to a high presence in militaristic uniform, something of which I was greatly inspired by in the making of this collection. It partly had a historical connection, while also generally having a vague connection built by a non-literal understanding of the time. A repeating motif through out the collection is the pride of our flag, I had manipulated our great country's flag according to my designs. I utilized distressing to tell the story of the wearer, as if the clothing had once been alive and in use in the 18th century, thus seen in a coat with distressing on the shoulder, symbolizing the wear of a postal bag that the fictional owner would have worn during their work. I had also played with the idea of clothes being torn and mended in different ways, as it would be used in a busy life of hard work. This collection is an homage and honoring to those who contributed to the foundation of our country today, in which we dwell. I thank you for experiencing this collection in which I created.

yours truly,
